If sign-ups for the 7th Annual OffshoreAlert Financial Due Diligence Conference are anything to go by, global interest in Offshore Financial Centers is off the charts.

With four weeks still to go, next month's event in Miami Beach, Florida is on course to be our best-attended conference by a long way.

"Sign-ups are already nearly the same as we had in 2008 and there's still 30 days to go before our 2009 conference begins," said conference organizer David Marchant, publisher of OffshoreAlert. "And that's on top of sponsorship that is nearly four times as much as it was last year.

"It is a clear indication of the continuing interest in Offshore Financial Centers around the world and testament to the significance and global impact of the myriad of business transactions that is conducted in and through them.

"Issues such as the UBS tax investigation, hedge fund collapses, Ponzi schemes, the introduction of the 'Stop Tax Haven abuse Act' in the United States Senate, and the United Kingdom's review of its Overseas Territories have made this year's OffshoreAlert conference particularly topical."

So far, residents of 25 countries have registered to attend, with 52% of them from offshore jurisdictions and 42% residing from onshore countries.

The biggest single source of attendees is the USA, accounting for 39% of all attendees up to this point, followed "It is a clear indication of the continuing interest in Offshore Financial Centers around the world and testament to the significance and global impact of the myriad of business transactions that is conducted in and through them."by the Cayman Islands, 16%, and the British Virgin Islands, 14%.

The best-represented profession is law, accounting for 22% of registrants, followed by Government/Law Enforcement/Regulatory, 22%, and banking/financial services, 17%.

There has been widespread interest among journalists, with reporters from The Wall Street Journal, Business Week and Bloomberg among those who will be covering the event, while other journalists are coming from as far away as Denmark, Norway, and Switzerland.

In total, residents of the following countries have so far registered to attend: Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Denmark, Dominica, France, Germany, Grenada, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Netherlands Antilles, Norway, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Switzerland, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom, and USA.
